Christmas comes in July for pediatric cancer patients

Christmas came early Monday for some children fighting blood disorders and cancer at the University of Louisville department of pediatrics and Kosair Children's Hospital.

Santa stopped by for a surprise visit, bearing thousands of dollars in gifts.

Patti Stewart's grandson, Aidan, defeated leukemia and both now work as volunteers to help other fighting kids through the Isaiah Alonso Foundation.

The foundation is named for 6-year-old Isaiah Alonso, who died a week after collapsing in 2010 as a result of complications from lymphoma. The Isaiah Alonso Foundation was created in his memory to raise awareness for childhood cancer and to provide financial assistance to children with the disease.

"These kids have struggled and these kids are warriors, warriors go to battle, and these kids are in battle every day," said Stewart.
